Artist and Concept Design
Joe Warren retired from Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) on December 27, 2013 after a 23 year career. He is currently pursuing his practice of painting and is consulting as an artist and designer.
Joe concluded his career with WDI as the Lead Creative Designer, managing a team of artists and creative designers along with a variety of design driven projects for the Walt Disney World portfolio and also served as the Principal Concept Designer. He joined WDI as a licensed interior designer in 1990 and navigated to the Creative Department a year and a half later due to his proven ability in art and illustration. As a member of the Creative Department, Joe produced concept artwork to illustrate a variety of ideas for themed environments and assisted project teams responsible for developing Disney theme parks, attractions, resorts and the Disney Cruise Ships. A skilled artist, he also creates artwork for reproduction, and many of his creations are on display throughout the Disney theme parks and resorts.
Joe’s last project before retiring from WDI was painting of a portrait of Walt Disney for Disney’s Golden Oak Resort Club House. A few other significant projects include posters designed to illustrate the American Adventure attraction and the Millennium Celebration at Epcot. He has also designed murals for the Emporium merchandise store in the Magic Kingdom and produced the pictorial illustrations for many of the billboards down Hollywood Blvd. and Sunset Blvd. at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guest rooms at Disney¹s Coronado Springs Resort and Disney¹s Yacht Club Resort also feature reproductions of Joe’s artwork.
After earning his MFA from the University of Wisconsin in Painting, Drawing and Design, Joe taught drawing at Wayne State University in his early career. Internationally, he taught Painting and Drawing and was the Head of the Art Department at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. He has also exhibited his paintings nationally and internationally. Upon his return from East Africa, Joe’s career diverted from fine art to interior design. For eight years and prior to joining WDI, he worked as an interior designer specializing in hospitality design for Holiday Inns in Memphis, Tennessee.
Joe and his wife Lori live in the Central Florida area with their children and grandchildren living near by.
